“Absolutely fabulous driveway
DH Driveways provided a professional and efficient service. They were punctual and completed the job with very little disruption . We are so happy with the finished result .We have had so many compliments. Darren and his team were fantastic .An added bonus was an unsightly dividing wall between our neighboring driveway was replaced by a concrete wall that compliments the driveway and was beyond our expectations. We cannot highly recommended DH Driveways enough. A big thank you for such a fantastic driveway. John and Diane”

Customer Review from Yell
I chose local company DH DRIVEWAYS for my new drive.
“Darren gave me a competitive quote, arrived on schedule, kept in touch and finished within the timescale given. ‘Despite the British weather.’ This is a very friendly, professional, reliable team, who addressed finer details others dont, like protecting doors and windows and ensuring joins with existing footways are neat. It looks superb i’m so happy with it. I wont hesitate to recommend this company to anyone who asks.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Resin Bound Stone
Everything You Need to Know
What is resin bound stone surfacing?
Resin bound surfacing is created by thoroughly mixing natural or recycled stone aggregate with a two-part polyurethane resin. The mixture is trowelled onto a prepared base (usually tarmac or concrete) to create a smooth, seamless, highly decorative surface. Unlike resin bonded (where stone is scattered on top of resin), resin bound fully encapsulates each stone, making it permeable, durable and virtually maintenance-free.
How long does installation take?
Most standard driveways take between 1–3 days to complete. This includes excavation, base preparation and resin installation. The resin itself typically cures within 4–6 hours in normal weather conditions, meaning you can walk on it the same day and drive on it within 24 hours. Larger or more complex projects may take a little longer, and we’ll always give you a realistic timeline at the survey stage.
How do I maintain a resin bound driveway?
One of the biggest advantages of resin bound surfacing is how little maintenance it requires. An occasional rinse with a garden hose or a gentle jet wash once or twice a year is all that’s typically needed to keep it looking pristine. There are no weeds to pull, no loose stones to rake and no grouting to replace. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners, as these can affect the resin over time.
Can resin be laid over my existing driveway?
Yes – in many cases resin bound can be installed directly over an existing sound tarmac or concrete base, which can significantly reduce cost and disruption. However, the existing surface must be structurally sound, level, well-drained and free from cracks or movement. During your free survey, we’ll assess the condition of your existing surface and advise honestly whether it’s suitable or whether a new base is required.
Is resin bound suitable for pathways and patios too?
Absolutely! Resin bound surfacing is extremely versatile and looks equally stunning on garden pathways, patios, pool surrounds, steps and even commercial car parks. Many of our customers choose to install matching resin across their entire front garden, driveway and side path for a seamless, designer finish. Ask us about our garden transformation packages.
Do I need planning permission for a resin bound driveway?
In most cases, no. Because resin bound surfaces are fully permeable, they comply with the government’s guidelines on sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS). This means you generally do not need planning permission to install one in front of your home in England. However, if you live in a listed building or a designated conservation area, we recommend checking with your local planning authority. We can advise you during your free survey.
How long will a resin bound driveway last?
When professionally installed on a correctly prepared base, a resin bound driveway can last 20 years or more. The UV-stable resins we use are specifically formulated to resist yellowing, cracking and fading, even under heavy use and the varied British climate. We back all our installations with quality materials for complete peace of mind.
What colours and finishes are available?
We offer over 30 stone colours and blends, from traditional natural tones like Sahara Gold, Natural Buff and Silver Grey, to more contemporary options like Charcoal Black and mixed aggregate blends. You can also choose contrasting border colours to create a defined, polished edge. We’ll bring physical samples to your free home survey so you can see exactly how each option looks in natural light at your property.
How much does a resin bound driveway cost?
Pricing depends on several factors including the size of the area, the condition of the existing base, the stone colour chosen and accessibility. As a guide, most domestic driveways range from £50–£100 per square metre fully installed. We always provide a detailed, itemised written quotation after your free survey – there are no hidden costs or surprises. Contact us today for your no-obligation quote.
